My name is Viktoriia V. Davydenko. I was born on the 27th of May, 1988 in Polland, Kolobzheg.
I’m a 4th year student of National University of Ostroh Academy, Ukraine. I study in the Collage of Romance and Germanic Languages.
Since 2005 I’ve been volunteering at the University of Ostroh Academy organizing donations to the orphanage houses in the city of Ostroh
For the last 4 years I’ve been applying to this program. Finally I was accepted to the CWY (Canada World Youth) Netishyn – Mission program 2009/2010.
The priorities of this programme are:
- verbal and non-verbal communication;
- dealing with different people;
- the ability to exchange the experience;
- find out more about different cultures;
- similarities and different between the cultures;
- ability to help people.
For the first part of the programme, which was held in Netishyn, Ukraine, I worked in a Social Service for Children and Youth centre. I conducted lessons at schools and tutored English. As a team we worked to:
- help clean the river;
- listened to many guest speakers;
- survey the community on their health needs.
Through our observations, the children in Netishyn were in need of extra curricular activities, therefore, we organized a soccer championship and an after school soccer program promoting women’s soccer. On top of everything I attended different work-placements at the Social Service Centre, schools, and a laboratory in Netishyn.
Now we are in Mission, Canada BC. Even though we have been here only 4 weeks, I have already experienced the atmosphere of this community. As a group we have been introduced to the history and culture of the first nation, specifically in X:aytem. What is more, we went to the Blood Bank on the 21st of December and saw how the system operates. On the 18th of December we met the mayor. Myself and several other people of the group went to the Friendship Centre on the 20 of December to help with serving the Christmas Dinner.
My work placement in Mission is with Mission Literacy In Motion. It is going to be a great experience in helping people:
- to understand the English language;
- to improve their literacy skills;
- to fulfill the documents and different application forms.
Moreover, on the 20th of January I will be volunteering in the Blood Bank. Later on the whole group is going to volunteer at the Cancer Clinic.
As for me, I hope that to the end of this CWY 2009/2010 Netishyn – Mission programme my group and I will make a visible impact on the society of Mission.
